Church History
Destiny Baptist Church was founded and incorporated in 2008. The first worship service was held Sunday, January 11, 2009 in Davis Hall on the campus of the United Church of Christ in Spring Hill, Florida.
Rev. Benjamin A. Myers was called to be the Pastor. The church conducted Sunday School, Sunday Worship Services and held Bible Study and Prayer Service weekly. Men, Women and a Widows fellowship was started and a Bread Ministry. The church affiliated with The Progressive National Baptist Convention. Pastor Myers served the church three years. Under his leadership the spiritual growth of members flourished and a sound fiscal foundation was laid. Pastor and Mrs. Myers relocated to North Carolina to be closer to family.
Rev. Mel Harris was called to pastor Destiny in May 2012. Under his leadership, the church held its first baptism. Ministries and activities have been expanded to include: Music ministry, Thursday Bible Study and Prayer, Youth Sunday, Pot Luck Dinners, counseling and mentoring, musical programs, Family and Friends Day, Holy Week Services and other special events. The church’s membership has more than doubled.
The church continues building on its solid foundation and expanding its ministries. Every effort is being put into making Destiny a safe church where disciples are made, people are cared for and loved, and God is exalted. History is still being recorded. We labor together with God’s help to make our Church a replica of Heaven.
